SafeNet Trusted Access for AppDynamics


The application template provides the ability to enable single sign-on for users accessing the AppDynamics application through SafeNet Trusted Access.

The following use cases can be configured for AppDynamics:

SP-initiated SSO

IdP-initiated SSO

Just-in-Time Provisioning

Configuring SafeNet Trusted Access for AppDynamics is a three-step process:

1.AppDynamics setup

2.SafeNet Trusted Access setup

3.Verify authentication

AppDynamics Setup

As a prerequisite, download the Identity Provider certificate from the from the SafeNet Trusted Access console by clicking the Download X.509 certificate button. You will need this certificate in one of the steps below.

Perform the following steps to configure SafeNet Trusted Access as your Identity Provider in AppDynamics:

1.Log in to AppDynamics as an administrator.

2.On the dashboard, on the top right-hand side corner, click the SETTINGS icon , and under ADMIN, click Administration.

3.Under Administration, click the Authentication Provider tab .

4.Under SAML Configuration, perform the following steps:

a.In the Login URL field, enter the SingleSignOnService URL that is provided on the SafeNet Trusted Access console.

On the STA console, you can copy this URL by clicking on the Copy to Clipboard icon available next to the SingleSignOnService field.

b.In a text editor, open the identity provider certificate that you downloaded earlier from the STA console and copy the entire certificate content.

c.In the Identity Provider Certificate field, click on the pencil icon to replace the existing content with identity provider certificate text that you copied in the previous step.

d.(Optional step) Enable SAML Encryption if you want to encrypt the SAML response.

5.Under SAML Attribute Mappings, perform the following steps:

a.In the Username Attribute field, enter Username.

b.In the Display Name Attribute field, enter DisplayName.

c.In the Email Attribute field, enter Email.

6.Under SAML Group Mappings, perform the following steps:

a.In the SAML Group Attribute Name field, enter a name for the SAML group attribute (for example, SAML Groups).

b.In the Group Attribute Value field, select the Multiple Nested Group Values option.

c.Next to Mapping of Group to Roles, click on the plus icon to map groups to roles.

7.On the Add Group Mapping window, perform the following steps:

a.In the SAML Group Name field, enter the group name that you will pass from SafeNet Trusted Access identity provider (for example, AppDynamicsAccountOwner).

b.Under Available Roles, select the role that you want to assign to the group, and click < Add.

c.Click Save.

SafeNet Trusted Access Setup

After completing the first step of configuring SafeNet Trusted Access in AppDynamics, the second step is to activate the AppDynamics application in SafeNet Trusted Access by performing the following steps:

1.In the Applications pane, the AppDynamics application you added earlier is in the inactive state by default. To configure and activate this application, click the application (for example, AppDynamics) and proceed to the next step.

2.Under STA Setup, in the ACCOUNTNAME OF APP DYNAMICS field, enter your account name.

3.Click Save Configuration to save the details and activate the AppDynamics application in SafeNet Trusted Access.

Verify Authentication

Using STA Console

Navigate to the AppDynamics Console login URL, https://<AccountName>/, where <AccoutName> is your AppDynamics account.

For example, https://

Enter your account name, and click login.

You will be redirected to your SafeNet Trusted Access sign-in page. Enter your primary directory login information, approve the two-factor authentication, and you should be redirected to the AppDynamics console after authentication.

Using STA User Portal

Navigate to the User Portal URL to log in to the STA User Portal dashboard. On the dashboard, you will see a list of applications to which you have access. Click the AppDynamics application icon. You should be successfully logged in to the AppDynamics console after authentication.
